The Rise and Fall of Kevin Omwenga, Also Known as Richhy Rich

Kevin Omwenga, famously known as Richhy Rich, was a young Kenyan car dealer whose fast rise to success ended in a tragic and untimely death. At just 28 years old, Kevin was living the kind of life many only dream of—luxury cars, high-end apartments, and flashy fashion. But behind the glamour was a story of ambition, struggle, and dangerous decisions.
Humble Beginnings in Kisii
Kevin was born on February 28, 1991, in a small village called Soko in Kisii County. His early years were marked by loss. His father passed away when Kevin was only two, leaving his mother to raise him and his two older brothers, Wycliffe and Vincent, on her own. Life wasn’t easy, but their uncle stepped in to support the family, making sure the boys were taken care of as best as he could.
Kevin was a bright student. He started school in his village and later joined Kisumu Boys High School. But financial challenges made it difficult for him to continue his education, forcing him to start thinking about how to earn a living instead.
A Dream to Make It in Nairobi
In 2013, Kevin convinced his uncle to let him move to Nairobi. He wanted more than what Kisii could offer. With big dreams and no clear plan, he arrived in the city hoping to find a better life. He stayed with his uncle’s family as he figured out his next steps.
One thing Kevin was sure of—he didn’t want to follow the paths his brothers had taken. One worked as a casual laborer, and the other was a matatu conductor. Kevin had always loved cars, and he was determined to turn that passion into a career.
Building a Career in Car Sales
Kevin managed to land a job at Insignia Motors on Ngong Road. With no experience or clients, he relied on his charm and the growing power of social media. He started posting car listings online, especially on Facebook, showcasing himself as a confident and stylish car dealer. His hard work eventually paid off when he made his first sale—a Mini Cooper. The commission helped him rent his own place and begin living the independent lifestyle he always wanted.
As his confidence grew, so did his ambition. He began dressing like celebrities, enjoying nightlife, and living big. He started selling more luxury cars and slowly carved out a name for himself in the business. His new image and social media presence brought him attention, including from a woman named Rukia Jamal.
Love, Luxury, and Lies
Rukia, a Belgium-Ugandan woman, was drawn to Kevin’s charm and success. Kevin, in turn, tried to impress her by pretending he owned the dealership. Their relationship grew, and she even visited him in Kenya several times. Unaware of the full truth, she often helped him financially.
Though she invited him to move to Germany with her, Kevin turned her down. He loved Kenya and the life he was building. But as time passed, the distance and Kevin’s lifestyle caused strain, and the relationship eventually ended.
Trouble in the Car Business
After their breakup, Kevin’s life began to change. He was fired from Insignia Motors after a customer complaint. Still, he quickly found a new job at Lystra Motors in Lavington, where he continued selling luxury cars. But by now, Kevin had entered circles filled with questionable characters—wealthy but secretive individuals involved in shady deals.
It wasn’t long before he left his job to chase even bigger money, joining a group involved in fraudulent gold scams—known in Kenya as the “wash wash” business.

A Life Transformed… and Cut Short
From a car salesman to a high-roller in a few short years, Kevin was now living large. He moved into a high-end apartment in Kilimani, dressed in designer clothes, and was seen as a young man who had "made it." He often credited his success to “God’s blessings,” but few knew the full story behind his rapid rise.
On August 21, 2020, the illusion came crashing down. Kevin had planned a party at his apartment. One of the guests, Robert Bodo, ended up fatally shooting him with a gun that had been taken from his boss’s office. What exactly led to the shooting remains unclear, but the incident left many in shock and raised questions about the company he was keeping.
Remembering Kevin
